Kent Police have started working with other agencies to make incidents of hate crime and homophobic crimes much easier to report. The Kent force has just launched a dedicated phone line which is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week, which is answered by specially trained, non police staff.

Victims of hate crime can now call the new number if they prefer not to deal with the police directly, or fear discrimination. The service has been available since last week, it’s designed to deal with all forms of hate crime including those based on sexuality, gender, race, religion, disability and age.
Detective Superintendent Jon Sutton, the Head of Crime and Intelligence at Kent Police, urged all victims of hate crime to report it, so they can take action, “We take all reports of hate incidents extremely seriously. It can have a devastating effect not only on victims, but also families and communities," he said. “We want victims to know they have a voice, they will be listened to, and will have a say in the outcome for those perpetrating this type of abuse.”
