To millions of soap fans he’s a loveable sexy and so very manly farmer in top soap Emmerdale. He is one of the most longing serving members of the cast and one of soap’s hottest stars.
Emmerdale’s Kelvin Fletcher plays troubled Andy Sugden who has, during his recent years on the show, bedded a number of the show’s sexiest women. Apparently there are a whole load more to come in the not too distant future.
In the show recently he’d been suspected of arson, a fire that took the lives of two main characters. Then we saw him fight against a fit up from the police. He risked his life to rescue his first love Katie, sort of, and plays a reluctant hero.
He’s a popular choice with an army of fans, but, as reported in todays UK’s Mirror newspaper, Kelvin reckons it’s being fancied by real-life gay blokes that gives him the most satisfaction. He’s just been snapped for gay fashion mag Attitude, laughs: “It’s dead flattering isn’t it? I have got a big gay following. I actually find it more flattering when a bloke comes on to you than a woman. I’ve even found myself flirting back sometimes!”
It’s so easy to see why Kelvin is so popular, he has a sexy well muscular body, bulging biceps, sexy as hell eyes and seems like such a nice boy. Manly yet also sort and caring, he seems to be a friendly chap.
He works out three times a week and often goes for 60 mile cycle rides and likes to keep fit. Kelvin, who is newly single after splitting from long term girlfriend Liz Marsland, isn’t vain.
“I find it funny that I’m a pin-up,” he blushes. “People seem to always mention my body these days and I suppose I have changed but I look just like all my mates – the only difference is, I’m on TV.
“I’m like most people. I keep fit for myself. I’m not religious about it but I like to get to the gym whenever I can.
“When I’m out and about, I never get chatted up by women in an obvious way. Saying that, I do seem to get these groups of girls coming up to me when I’m out and then suddenly you’re getting your bum pinched!”
Emmerdale producers are keen to tap into the “sexy Sugden” effect too.
Kelvin smiles: “There have been times recently when I’ve had to take my top off on screen and I’ve thought, ‘Bloody hell, I look all right there’.
“I just wish they’d give me a bit more notice so I could get the fake tan on! Don’t get me wrong – I’m not vain but when I’m older I hope I’ll look back and think I looked OK a couple of times. Who wouldn’t at my age?”
So what do his mates think of his hunky sex symbol status?
KELVIN says: “They love it that Andy gets all these fit women. Although they’re very jealous that this is what I get to do at work. But most of my friends aren’t actors so they don’t take it that seriously. I’ve still got the same friends I’ve always had. I would be mortified if I ever heard anyone saying, ‘Do you know who I am?’, let alone me. I would find that really embarrassing”
“So I think people are shocked when they meet me because I’m not what they expect. I don’t see myself as a celeb, I’m just a normal bloke”

Kelvin first hit the screens on the show as a weedy looking 12 year old back in 1996 as troubled foster kid Andy. He’s had his fair share of high ranking storylines and has remained a constant cast member ever since.
“It sounds corny but I really have grown up on the show. Most people have got a few dodgy photographs tucked away from when they were younger – but mine have been seen by eight million viewers every night so it’s a lot harder to live them down.
“People make a big fuss, as if I’ve suddenly changed and bulked up, but they forget I’ve been on the show since I was 12. I’m bound to have changed.”
