THE hoax terror alert at Heathrow's Terminal 5 was caused by a gay lovers' row, it was revealed yesterday. Reports the UK’s Mirror newspaper.
A man was arrested after claiming that his partner had a bomb.
The suspect, in his 30s, allegedly rang 999 after a tiff with his partner, 72, who left their Oxford house with a suitcase. The hoax call said he "planned to blow something up".
Three police forces launched an operation to find the "bomber".
An armed Thames Valley unit swooped on Oxford rail station but just missed him after he caught a train.
British Transport Police were put on alert but the man got to Terminal 5 before he was nabbed by armed Met officers.
The building was evacuated and shut for an hour on Thursday while his luggage was searched before he was freed.
The suspect hoaxer, thought to be in a civil partnership with the OAP, is being quizzed for wasting police time.
A source said: "Someone named the man and said he was off to blow something up, but didn't specify what.
"He was quickly ruled out after a search at Heathrow."
