The Policlinica Tibidabo clinic in Barcelona, Spain is being investigated after reports surfaced in the Spanish national newspaper El Pais, that it allegedly offers pills and psychiatric therapy to gay people who believe they can become straight.
El Pais said that many of the clinic's patients belong to religions which do not accept homosexuality, or are pressured to go there from religious family members. The spokeswoman from the regional government's health department told news agency AFP: "An investigation has been opened into this clinic. We do not consider homosexuality as an illness, far from it." She said the clinic would be the subject to an investigation to last over a month and could possibly face heavy fines if such treatments were taking place.
Spain was the third country in Europe to legalize gay marriage back in 2005, and resorts like Barcelona and Sitges are incredibly popular holiday spots for European gays.
