Down Under Kissing.
News from Down Under!
Gay couples locked lips in the Australian capital in a romantic protest aimed at winning the right to get married. Reported Bigpond.com
About 200 people attended the event, which was organised in Civic by Equal Love Canberra - and at least a dozen of them took up the challenge to kiss for a minute.
The 'kiss-in' was held to mark the International Day Against Homophobia.
Canberra resident Evan Gallagher married his partner David Mills in a religious ceremony in a Quaker church three years ago, but the marriage cannot be legally recognised.
'We're still waiting for legal recognition of our marriage,' he told AAP from the rally.
'It seems incongruous to us, our family recognises our marriage, our friends recognise our marriage, our church recognises our marriage, but our country doesn't.'
Laws prevent the marriage of same-sex couples; Mr Gallagher said this made him feel like a 'second-class citizen'.
An Equal Love rally was also held in Melbourne on May 15, attended by about 1000 people, including eminent British actor Sir Ian McKellen.
