Selling myself.

Human for sale,  just a few careful owners, used yes, but still in relatively good condition with plenty of years left to run!

That was part of the opening paragraph I used when I took the drastic step of putting myself up for sale on popular auction site eBay recently!

I agree, it was a rather rash and unusual thing to do, however in these days of economic woe and biting recession, sometimes you just have to be a little unorthodox and to think outside that box.

So, why did I put myself on eBay?

I took a career break for year last year to write a novel about a radio presenter falling in love with the wrong sort of person leading to an explosive situation which exposed the whole sordid and corrupt nature of the UK independent radio industry. Whilst it was a work of fiction, I'm sure I would have drawn aspects from my own experience of working in that industry in the 90's!

Well,  things didn’t quite work out like that, I got half way through and hit writers block in a massive way,  it wasn't so much as a block, but a bloody great mountain!     However,  I did manage research, compile complete and publish a non fiction book - The Top 50 Most Influential Gay Movies of All Time and a short gay erotic fiction novella - Memory Lanes Future.  The royalties have not exactly flooded in and saving have long since run dry.  (both are still available on Amazon should you wish you help me in some way.)

I sought gainful employment in all the usual methods, searching high and low for an elusive job that would provide me with an income whilst I completed the novel I’d already started.  Jobs are hard to come by these days and luck seemed to be elsewhere.  I started to sell my belongings,  some online on eBay and some in the local money exchange store,  the modern equivalent of the old fashion pawnbroker.   I got down to my last few DVD’s and  had nothing left to sell,  except perhaps me.  So  I listed myself on the auction site.

I had a few hundred hits and then the story was picked up by the local television news,  I was interviewed at home by a lovely reporter, Charlotte Wilkins and was filmed doing various things.  The report was broadcast on the lunch time and evening editions of Meridian news on ITV in the South of England.

It was great fun and I really do send my appreciation to Charlie for making me feel so at ease and comfortable that I hardly noticed that a camera was on me.  Oh and yes,  the camera does add pounds to you,  at least that is my excuse!

So you see,  that’s why I advertised myself for hire on eBay.

I’m still available for hire and anything - within reason - will be considered,  although nothing illegal or immoral please.

The bad news was that even though I made sure the first eBay page stated that nothing illegal or immoral would be considered,  they removed the page feeling it breached its policy.

Following an online conversation with one of their customer service operatives, another page has been created,  which can be found here,  although, eBay reserve the right to remove it depending on what they feel like doing.

Thanks so much for your time.
