Teacher suspended over alleged lesbian affair with pupil

PE teacher Nicola Webster, who was accused of having an ‘inappropriate affair’ with a pupil, has been suspended from teaching for two years.

26-year-old Webster is reported to have initiated a relationship with the Year 12 student at The Abbey School in Kent following a school ski trip in 2008, reports the Daily Mail newspaper.

The General Teaching Council (GTC) rejected allegations of a holiday arranged by Webster with the student and that the couple had attended parties together. However, the GTC committee ruled that Facebook photos and various witness accounts of inappropriate conduct outside of the school suggested an illicit relationship between the teacher and her pupil.

Committee chair Gloria Hyatt stated: “Miss Webster has failed to provide an appropriate learning environment for Pupil A and failed to uphold the reputation of the profession.”

“We are concerned that she seems to have shown no remorse for her actions. It seems we are not dealing with an isolated incident, and she has taken no rehabilitative steps.

“We believe that the suspension of two years will give her adequate time to asses the effects of her behaviour, as well has helping to uphold the reputation of the teaching profession.”

Pink Paper previously reported how an eyewitness had claimed to see the two walking hand-in-hand.

Webster denied the allegations, saying: “I can confirm that I have never, and never will enter into a relationship with a pupil.”

“I can also confirm that I am not gay. I am straight, and I know about teacher boundaries and to this day I teach to those boundaries.”

“I am a successful teacher and I love my job.”
