Tens of thousands of revellers turned out for the annual Stockholm Pride on Saturday as the weeklong celebrations of music, debates and performances peaked with a colourful parade and a lively after party.
Despite torrential rain, the approximate 50,000 participants were treated to an entertaining parade lead by motorcycle group Dykes on Bikes, which wound its way through the Swedish capital’s streets from Zinkensdamm sports centre to Sergels Torg, the main hub of the Pride celebrations.
The parade was the highlight of seven days of events from seminars and workshops to film and theatre, with the celebrations reaching a climax in the parade after party in Kungsträdgården on Saturday night with DJs and live music. Events continue on Sunday, including a discussion on queer film in Sweden.
Stockholm Pride has been running since 1988 and the theme of this years’ event, which organisers claim to be the biggest in Scandinavia, is openness.
