Police officer arrested after offering drugs in gay club

A police officer has been arrested by West Midlands Police after allegedly offering to supply drugs in a well-known Coventry gay club.  As reported by the Coventry Telegraph, the 37-year-old officer, who is thought to work in the Nuneaton and Bedworth area for Warwickshire Police, was arrested at gay nightspot Rainbows early on Saturday morning.

West Midlands Police released a statement following the arrest, which according to the newspaper said: “West Midlands Police officers arrested a 37-year-old man in the early hours of Saturday, August 13, at Rainbows nightclub in Short Street, Cheylesmore.

“The man was questioned on suspicion of offering to supply drugs and has been bailed until a date in late September pending further enquiries.”

A Warwickshire Police spokesperson told the Coventry Telegraph the officer in question has now been suspended pending an investigation into the incident.

“We can confirm that an officer serving with Warwickshire Police has been suspended,” it said.

“We are not confirming the name of the officer and any comment about the investigation being dealt with by West Midlands Police is a matter for them.”
