The supremely talented and incredibly charming singer/songwriter extraordinaire Jake Walden has released a brand new album this week. Same Something Different came out on 26th July and is a true masterpiece, ever track is a winner. Pure class. There is lots of light and dark on this new album, as Jake explains, “I’m a person who has lived in a lot of darkness. This album doesn’t deny that, but at the same time through it, I step out into the light.”
It’s hard to categorize his sound, Jake's voice has so many textures, from silky smooth to rough-hewn lumber, forever capturing heartfelt emotion. He can take you from cool sheets to a gravel road, never failing to lend a hand to grasp.
much more -
There’s a refreshing honestly to the sensitive and emotive lyrics that have that rare ability to truly reach into your mind, into your very soul and transport you to different place. The son of hippies, born and raised in Northern California, he’s already built up a big fan base - the dreamers, with the release of his new album that fan base is bound to sky rocket.
There is so much feeling in the beautiful delicate Same Something Different that it really lights up your life, it’s uplifting, it makes you feel better about life.
For Alice is an emotive track that transports you to another place, a deeply personal song, as Jake explains - “In July 2009, after many months of travel I found myself staying a block from this corner. One day I walked outside to see a white bike decorated with flowers and ribbons. Surrounding the bike were chalk written words of love and loss, above it, on a street light pole was a heart with the words “For Alice” written on them. I spent the rest of that summer wondering who this person was, imagining what her life had been, what it could be. I wondered who had loved her and who was going to miss out on the chance.”
“The song was inspired by the memory of someone I never met but will always live within me. I hope the song helps others to be aware of how easy a life can be lost and how precious we all are. Peace, be you, Jake No time. No fear. Only love.”
Jake is a sweet, friendly caring young man, his voice carries those emotions throughout the new album though its deeply personal 11 stories. Same Something Different also lives up to its name, coming together in a rather different way. It was, I suppose you could say a group effort, a bit of a team job from his friends, fans and fellow dreamers. No, of course they were not all in the studio with him or holding his hand or carrying his guitar, but something more important, for they came together to contribute to the albums creation to the tune of $24,000 !
It’s those fans that have helped turn Same Something Different from a dream to a reality. The support, Jake says, confirmed his path was going the right direction , “I’d love to have a hit, believe me,” he says. “But more important is feeling like I’ll be able to make music that matters not only to me but to those who make my songs a part of their lives for the next 20 years. That feeling became more real once I realized that so many others were also invested in that possibility.”
