'Demonised' Christians Pull Out of Gay Talks In Hobart

ANTI-gay marriage groups say they are pulling out of a public debate in Hobart because they are sick of being demonised by their opposition, reports the Herald Sun news paper.

The Australian Christian Lobby's Jim Wallace, state Liberal MP Michael Ferguson and Terri Kelleher of the Australian Family Association were set to take part in a debate about gay marriage at the University of Tasmania in Launceston.

But the trio said today they were pulling out because they were being "demonised", citing the example of state Labor MP Brenton Best accusing Mr Ferguson of inciting hate crimes.

"This is increasingly typical of the tactics being used by the gay rights lobby and their media," Mr Wallace said.

"Only last Thursday the Sydney Star Observer described the Australian Christian Lobby and the Australian Family Association, who Terri and I represent, as gay hate groups.

Just look at some of the related coverage from the last few days

"The ACL is committed to represent Christ in what we do - not to hate, but to love, even those who oppose us."

Rodney Croome of the Tasmanian Gay and Lesbian Rights Group, who was set to represent the pro-gay marriage argument at the debate, said he was disappointed at the withdrawal.

"This debate was the perfect opportunity for opponents of marriage equality not only to put their case, but to address whatever concerns they have about the tone of public debate," Mr Croome said.

"By withdrawing it looks like they trying to win public sympathy by playing the victim card rather than actually making their case, and this does their cause no good at all."

Must gay groups don’t demonise Christian groups,  we don’t need to,  they do it to themselves,   they are by very definition hypocrites,   they believe in one part of the bible and not other parts -  yet who are they to say which parts are the law according to god and which parts are not!
