It was a major step forward in acceptance and equality in the American city of Seattle. The colours of the rainbow flag fluttering proudly above the cities most famous landmark The Space Needle made, last year.
It was the first time, and now we are told it was the last, so another two steps back. it has announced the rainbow flag will not make a reappearance for this month’s gay-pride festivities. “(We) are not flying the flag this year,” Space Needle spokeswoman Mary Bacarella said in a statement Friday. “We don’t make a habit of flying flags on top of the Space Needle and we make an effort not to fly any flags on a recurring basis,” she said. If they don’t fly any flags on a regular basis, why did they keep the Rainbow Flag in the closet for the year? No answer from them on that but Bacarella did say they are giving the flag to the group, Seattle Out & Proud. Nor was they any reply on the speculation that the Republican party both local and national have put pressure on the Needle not to fly the flag.
Homophobia is alive and well in Seattle, despite it’s claim of being inclusive.
