Cumbria, in the north of England is set to host its first-ever big Pride event for the lesbian and gay community. The colourful event, in Bitts Park in Carlisle on October 1, aims to promote diversity in the county and hopes people of all sexual orientations will attend.
Organiser Pam Eland said: “This is the first Pride event held on this scale in Cumbria and we want as much support as possible. “We hope to bring together the whole community for the first time by having 2,500 people of all ages and sexual orientations in attendance.
“It will be a family event full of music and entertainment for young and old people, as well as youth area stalls and information stands to promote diversity in Cumbria.”
“The event will help promote, inform and raise awareness of these organisations working throughout Cumbria.”
Pride events are usually held in big cities like Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Sheffield and Oxford.
Pam added: “The event is ticketed and there will be a charge – any profits from the event will either be donated to next year’s Pride event or to local charities and organisations working with and for the LGBT community.”
