Nothing’s fair in US Sports.
Last weekend, New York Rangers star Sean Avery showed his support for same-sex marriage.
It didn't take long for someone to criticize him for his beliefs.
Todd Reynolds, vice-president of Uptown Hockey, a management group, tweeted that it was "very sad to read Sean Avery's misguided support of same-gender "marriage". Legal or not, it will always be wrong."
Reynolds would tweet twice more.
To clarify. This is not hatred or bigotry towards gays. It is not intolerance in any way shape or form. I believe we are all equal.
But I believe in the sanctity of marriage between one man and one woman. This is my personal viewpoint. I Do not hate anyone.
Don Reynolds, president of Uptown Sports and father of Todd told Sean Fitz-Gerald of the National Post that ..."the majority, I think, of Canadians would say that they don't agree with gay marriage – that man and woman were created to be married, not man and man or man and horse, you know?"
“Clearly from his tweets, it’s is a complete and utter attack on gay people, it’s hateful and shows his, and the agencies utter contempt for equality.” Said gay rights commentator Jason Shaw today. The tweets came from the ‘uptownhockey’ account. “He’s saying, I believe we are all equal - but not gays……it’s abhorrent that he can get away with this hate speak and homophobia, by criticising someone who is taking a very brave stance for equality.” Jason added. “I’d hope that everyone involved with Uptown Hockey would seriously think again about their dealings with the company”
We are calling for Andrew Brunette, Carlo Colaiacovo, Jonathan Bernier, Kyle Clifford, and Nashville’s Mike Fisher to right now end being represented by the agency, or perhaps they are as homophobic and against equality as Uptown Hockey
Perhaps it’s time to start the ball rolling and demand a change in the law, Catholics should not be married because they preach hatred, lets see how they’d like that.
“But I’m a little disappointment in some of the response. If you oppose a viewpoint, you’re immediately targeted by some people as a hater, a bigot, intolerant, homophobic and many other terms. That’s obviously not the case for people who know me… I don’t hate anyone, and I’m certainly not a bigot, but I believe in marriage between one man and one woman. It’s a social debate that’s raged on for quite some time. In Canada and the U.S. it’s a hot-button topic right now. I guess maybe it was how I was raised. I believe in voicing your opinion and not being part of the silent majority. “
Todd Reynolds said today on a local radio interview. He refused to apologise for any offence he caused, allegedly saying he didn’t care about offending gays.
