Brazil Gets Homophobia Helpline

 

The government of Brazil has launched a special new homophobia helpline to deal with complaints of anti-gay discrimination and violence.

The line,  started on 19th Feb, and is aimed at tackling the rise in anti-gay crime that is endemic in the country.

 
Its simple to access the service, all Brazilians need do is dial 100 from any phone and they get through to the helpline.


The launch ceremony featured an official from the nation's Human Rights Secretariat, the Senate first vice president, São Paulo's human rights secretary, and a federal congressman, among others.    The celebration ended with a March Against Homophobia along São Paulo's Avenida Paulista.
