Two Charged in Gay Date Robberies

News from Canada,  following recent stories of gays being robbed after placing ads on a online dating site, police are reporting that two young Halifax men are facing charges.  They allegedly targeted gay men via the online dating service Plenty of Fish,  they then robbed them.

In both cases, the victims picked up a man they had met on the dating site and were asked to drive to park areas in the south end of the city. Once parked, they were approached by another man and the victims were then threatened and robbed of their money and credit cards, police said.

Neither victim was physically harmed.

A 17-year-old and 20-year-old were arrested Tuesday in connection with the robberies. They are facing charges that include robbery, possession of stolen property, fraud and breach of probation.

Since the robberies, Halifax police have been warning gay men to be cautious about using the Internet to meet people.
