Mark Carter, a Police Officer with the West Yorkshire Police Force and a former Mr Gay UK contest winner has officially been arrested and formally charged with sexual assault and rape.
The arrest of the 27 year old followed an incident at a Leeds city centre hotel called the Etap on 19th December last year.
He will now face trial for at least one offence of alleged indecent assault and offences related to body-building drugs. He will appear at Leeds Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
The West Yorkshire Police Force confirmed this wee that a 27-year old police constable was suspended after an investigation into events at the Etap Hotel and would now stand trial on two counts, one of sexual assault and the other of rape.
It was back in 2006 when Mark Carter was crowned Mr Gay UK scoping £5,000 prize money during the national final of the competition, held in Blackpool's famous Flamingo's gay nightspot.
He was a popular choice, both on the local gay scene and amount gay police officers everywhere, he had the full support of his superiors at the force at the time, highlighting how encompassing they had become. At the time of his winning he said he joined in the competition to “change the public perception of the stereotypical gay man”.
Since then, he had also embarked on far reaching work within the gay community, along with charity work for many groups, including for the Anthony Nolan Trust, who very recently overturned a ban on bone marrow donations from gay men.
