In Washington, a huge step forward for equality was made in The Senate on Friday, when they passed the defense bill that paves the way for Don't Ask, Don't Tell repeal.
This could mean that gay and lesbian personal would be allowed to serve openly in the military for the first time.
The vote was rather close, 229-186, defense bills usually pass with a much wider margin in the US capital, but many Republicans and a few conservative Democrats said they would vote against it just because of the lifting of the gay ban.
House approval of the "don't ask, don't tell" repeal is a massive victory for President Barack Obama, along with many gay rights groups, who have fought hard to get the law changed.
This bill would give the Pentagon the rest of the year to study the issue before the repeal would take effect. The US Defense Secretary, Robert Gates appealed directly to the military on Friday not to be distracted by the political debate, he wanted to assure them that their views on the divisive question still matter.
