News reaches us from down under that a gay chap has mowed down his ex-boyfriend in a premeditated revenge attack hit him so hard his shoe ended up on the roof of a nearby house.
Craig Munro, a shopping centre cleaner, had a brief affair with Brendan Gannaway, a fellow cleaner at Brassall Shopping Centre, in Ipswich in late 2009.
But Munro became enraged when he saw Mr Gannaway, 23, kiss his female friend.
After overdosing on prescription drugs and briefly being admitted to hospital, Munro sent Mr Gannaway 49 text messages which included threats that he was "out for blood and I promise it will be yours" and "I'm going to dance on your grave".
He also texted that "you shouldn't have crossed me and you will pay" and "ha ha" just moments before he followed Mr Gannaway along a Sadliers Crossing street and drove his car into him just after 6am on September 2, 2009.
Mr Gannaway, who was riding a bike at the time, slammed into the car's windscreen and then hit the road.
Munro kept driving but called Triple-0 to request an ambulance and ask for the location of Ipswich Police Station so he could hand himself in.
Crown prosecutor Sarah Farnden said the hit and run was so forceful the Mr Gannaway's shoe ended up on the roof of a nearby home.
A witness estimated he had been driving at about 60 km/h.
But Mr Gannaway avoided major injuries and was left only with abrasions and some swelling.
Munro told police he "just saw him and went for him" when he was on his way to meet Mr Gannaway for a pre-arranged fight at their workplace.
"I just wanted to hurt him like he hurt me," he told detectives.
"That's why I ran him over ... I just put my foot down and hit him."
