Civil Partnerships For Poland

Poland’s ruling centre right party, Platforma Obywatelska (PO), is planning to introduce a law of registered civil partnerships that will be include same-sex couples. The proposed bill, however, is being met with fierce opposition within and outside the party.

After several months of discussion, the PO decided last week to put to the vote a draft bill in both chambers of the Polish parliament, the Sejm and Senate.

US Democrats back repeal of DOMA!

  Senate Democrats who back gay marriage have decided now is the time to repeal a federal law defining marriage as the union of a man and a woman.

The Democrats may satisfy their gay marriage supporters, but the bill won't get very far.

The repeal could be approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday, but the next stop — the full Senate — could be a long way off. The bill's chief sponsor, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., says she doesn't have the votes for Senate passage, and the bill would have no chance in a House controlled by Republican conservatives.

The chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., defended the timing of the panel's likely vote on the Defense of Marriage Act. "It is never the wrong time to right an injustice," he said.

Feinstein's bill has 31 Senate sponsors, all Democrats. Most Republicans fiercely oppose the repeal.

Politicians make a mockery of democracy

Once again our politicians make a mockery of democracy, once more they are self serving individuals who care little for the thoughts of the population, and more about their own self importance and position.  This, the most recent debate and vote on the UK’s membership of the EU on only took place in parliament because over 100,000 people signed an online partition on the governments own’ website. Every petition that gains over that number is promised to be debated in the chamber.  These petitions, are by there very nature the voice, indeed they indicate the will of the people, people can really have a say in how decisions are made.  

Regardless of what you may think of the choices laid in the question on the UK’s membership of the European Union, it was a wonderful example of how the view of the people,  the voices of population,  the backbone of the country, were being heard and could really have a say in the running of the country.  It was a wonderful and precious symbol of democracy in progress, a beacon of light, something to be proud of,  well at least for a while, until the views of the very few decided that we the people shouldn’t have a voice, that our views really don’t matter and that this whole petition malarkey is a farce.   Not one of the single parties in the house allowed their members to make up their own minds, its not surprising that Cameron’s Conservatives instigated a three line whip to ensure their MP’s voted against the motion.  Cameron said no and that was that – screw the will of the people.  

Tasmania votes for gay marriage.

GAY activists say yesterday's vote by Tasmania's lower house calling for gay marriage -- the first in an Australia parliament -- will build pressure on federal Labor ahead of its national conference.

State Labor MPs backed a Greens motion calling on the Gillard government to change the federal Marriage Act to allow same-sex couples to marry.

Gay marriage campaigners hailed passionate speeches in favour of the change by Labor MPs from blue-collar and Christian backgrounds, vowing to send the Hansard to Julia Gillard, who opposes gay marriage.

Premier Lara Giddings said the vote sent a message to the nation that "the time for marriage equality is here".

Foo Fighters Have Fun with Westboro Baptist church

Members of the Westboro Baptist church were taunted by rock band Foo Fighters, when the extremist Christian group picketed the band’s show in Kansas City, Missouri on Friday.

The church announced plans to picket the band’s concert on August 30^th, following many previous occasions where the group has planned to picket pop concerts in the area.

However, Foo Fighters got wind of the church’s plans and devised a counter attack against the extremist group.
Hours before their show at the Sprint Center, the band showed up on the picket line of the Westboro Baptist church on the back of an American flag decked rig truck in country trucker costumes.

Evil Bachmann defends gay hate on TV.

Republican presidential contender Michele Bachmann defended her position on gay rights, the HPV vaccine and the debt ceiling as she made her debut on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."


The hate monger who shares her husbands belief that you can 'prey the gay away' claimed the clinics they run together don't discriminate -  no  with them  both gay and straight people can be cured of gayness!


Jay Leno asked Bachmann why gay people shouldn't have the right to be happily married, Leno said: "That whole 'pray the gay away' thing, What? I don't get that."

Bachmann said the clinics did not discriminate, but repeated her position that marriage should be between a man and a woman.

It will be a bad day for America if this evil woman, who will lie you your face to get what she wants, becomes the Republican party candidate.

JOHANNESBURG: The South African President, Jacob Zuma, has brushed aside criticism from gay rights and women's groups and appointed a conservative Christian as the new Chief Justice, a move that will have an impact on the country's judicial system for at least a decade.

Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng, who told a judicial panel last weekend he believed God chose him to head the Constitutional Court, is a member of the Winners Chapel, which believes homosexuality is a disease and ''curable''.

He has been criticised for decisions that threw out jail sentences for men convicted of marital rape or assaulting their girlfriends and reduced the sentences of men convicted of raping children.

Lesbian wants to lead Scottish conservatives.

Lesbian MSP Ruth Davidson has launched her bid to lead the Scottish Conservative Party.

The 32-year-old was only elected in May but is tipped to win the leadership contest.

A former BBC journalist, she is said to be Tory leader David Cameron’s preferred choice for the job and has been praised for her “charisma”.

Republican leaders in the North Carolina House of Representatives are pushing to put a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage on the 2012 ballot.

 

The amendment would help protect the state's current law, which defines marriage as between a man and a woman, from being changed or challenged in court. The amendment will not affect whether private companies choose to recognize same-sex unions.

Australian anti-gay marriage rally held as poll finds Christians support equality

 

Gay marriage opponents held a rally in Canberra today to condemn marriage equality.

The ‘National Day for Marriage’ rally, organised by the Australian Christian Lobby, heard from a number of speakers, including MPs, who claimed that gay marriage is “selfish”, will “destroy marriage” and could give rights to paedophiles.

Around 500 people joined the event at Parliament House.
