A teenager from Newcastle has been jailed for his part in an attack on a gay man.
Kyle Watson whose 19, admitted kicking 25-year-old Michael Gibbons after barging into his house. The pair had rowed a week or so before the incident on 2nd Oct 2010 the court in Stoke heard. In the previous incident, homophobic language had been used but both men agreed to shake hands afterwards, the local media reported.
On October 2nd, Watson and others barged their way into Mr Gibbons’ home, he admitted kicking him, and the co-accused Matthew Douglas, 22, punched Mr Gibbons twice. Mr Gibbons said he heard someone say: “Is this that gay?” before he was attacked. Both pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Douglas was sentenced to six months in prison suspended for 18 months. He must also abide by an 18-month supervision order, do 180 hours of unpaid work and pay Mr Gibbons £300 compensation. Watson was sentenced to eight months in a young offenders’ institution. He is expected to serve half of the time and 80 days on remand will be counted as part of the sentence.
